Located under 15 minutes from Minneapolis, Richfield homes for sale are a perfect combination of convenience and peacefulness. Neighboring towns such as Edina, Bloomington, Mendota Heights, Hopkins, Lilydale, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka and Eagan are easily accessible using the highways that run right through town. These highways include Interstate 35W, Interstate 494, Minnesota State Highway 62 and Minnesota State Highway 77, in addition to Lyndale Avenue South. Many businesses appreciate Richfield’s location, including Best Buy, who moved their corporate headquarters to town at the turn of the century!
When Richfield was settled in the early 1850’s, it was merely a small farming community made up of primarily German, Irish, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish families. In 1858, the citizens gathered and agreed to name their new town Richfield, paying homage to its fertile farmland. A few decades later, Richfield began to grow through market gardening, which was a newer concept embraced wholeheartedly by the town’s farmers. Eventually, Richfield was supplying most of the produce for Minneapolis, surrounding suburbs and even other regions via the railroad! The town experienced another massive boom as developers began purchasing farmland to build homes for newly returned WWII veterans. Today, the city is updating these mid-century homes through remodeling, expansion and reconstruction, completely revitalizing the landscape.
Owners of Richfield real estate are served by the award-winning Independent School District 280. The district contains 4 elementary schools, including Spanish immersion school RDLS Elementary and STEM academy R-STEM Elementary. Richfield High School was named a National School of Excellence by the US Department of Education, and offers AP, honors and PSEO course options. Augsberg Park Montessori and the Minnesota Japanese school round out the town’s private school options.
To Do, To See
Thanks to its roots (pun intended) in garden marketing, it is no surprise that the Richfield Farmer’s Market is widely regarded as the best farmer’s market in the area. Owners of Richfield real estate also enjoy shopping at the city’s constantly-expanding Cedar Point Commons and exploring the 150 acres of wetlands and inhabitants of the Wood Lake Nature Center. Every 4th of July, Richfield attracts thousands of people to its 5-day celebration, which includes a parade, street dance, carnival, fair food and an incredible fireworks display!
