History

In 1850, Ramsey’s first settlers arrived on a powerful steamboat called The Governor Ramsey. Shortly after, Ramsey began its long lists of ‘firsts’,  including the first school, the first breaking of land for farming and the first colony settled in Anoka County. While the township was officially organized in 1857, it wasn’t incorporated as a city until 1974. The Old Ramsey Town Hall still stands and is maintained today, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Schools

Anoka-Hennepin School District 11 and Elk River School District both serve owners of Ramsey real estate. The Anoka High School is one of the largest and oldest schools in Minnesota. The PACT charter school is also in town, and offers a rigorous curriculum focused on core academics.
